Inspiration from Steve Jobs – Stanford Commencement Address and The Crazy Ones

The world was changed by this amazing “visioneer” and entrepreneur. The fact that I’m typing this on my MacBook, and that Steve Jobs’ journey to starting Apple was one of the stories I was taught in my business class as a teen, remind me of the ways I’ve been impacted by his innovation as well.

I’m inspired by the words he shared at the 2005 Stanford Commencement Address:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life…”
– Steve Jobs – Click Here for the Entire Speech Transcript

Also one of my favorites, the text to one of Apple’s most popular commercials and manifestos:

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?

We make tools for these kinds of people.

While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” -Apple, Inc.

Inspiration from Marshawn Evans On Life & Business

One of my inspirations in life and business is Marshawn Evans, who you may remember from a past season of Donald Trump’s The Apprentice. Marshawn is a former Miss America beauty queen, sports & entertainment lawyer, speaker and author who is devoted to helping others succeed, brand their businesses effectively and reach their full potential. She’s the founder of ME Unlimited, a consulting firm focusing on “reinvention, women’s empowerment, diversity, leadership and peak performance strategies.”

Marshawn is so open with helpful information and encouragement for entrepreneurs, especially for women who want to take their business to the next level. I love how she infused her faith into the past tele-seminars on focus and purpose that I have been able to take part in. Previously on my site Dream in Soul I posted about an interview she did on Christian women in business and how they can better balance their roles in life (click here for that post).

Here’s a recent video where Marshawn speaks on “How to Build Your Life God’s Way”:

This month Marshawn is kicking off a new program called The ME University Inner Circle Mentoring Mastermind. When I read about the program and how she is offering to instill her knowledge into other women to help them succeed, at an affordable price, I was drawn to apply to learn more from her (as she has been a “mentor-from-afar” to me in previous years as I learned from her other programs). To find out more about the Mentoring Mastermind visit http://meuniversitylive.com/innercircle and also visit her website http://marshawnevans.com to learn more and be inspired by her business and ministry.

Watch Marshawn talk about the Mastermind program below:
