Tasty Talent – Confetti Cakes Sculpted Dog Cake

I came across this Youtube video of “How to Make a Sculpted Dog Cake” and was so intrigued. It was made by Elisa Strauss of Confetti Cakes (click here to visit her website) who sculpted her dad’s labradoodle for his birthday. Wow, that is amazing! Watch it to see what I mean! Visit the Confetti Cake blog for more pictures of their amazing, creative cake creations.

I Can Fly!: My Duct Tape Sculpture

In my sculpture class we made sculptures that were supposed to represent gestures, either abstractly or more literally. We could use any materials we wanted and could build anything we chose. I decided to make a sculpture cast of myself out of duct tape. I got the idea from this artist named Mark Jenkins who has perfected the technique. Check out his Tape Sculpture website for some cool examples of what he and others have done using tape. I love how animated the sculptures are, and how they’re installed in everyday places doing crazy things. (more…)

Natural Inspiration – A Field of Fragrant Hues

I’m so inspired by nature and especially flowers- no wonder, my last name means “flower world” :). A few months ago I went to the Dallas Arboretum with my sister and took hundreds of pictures – it as breathtaking! They were having their Dallas Blooms exhibit and the place was a sea of bright colors. Beautiful! The day I went it was also filled with brides-to-be, children and babies having photoshoots. I would love to go back again to have a professional photographer take my photo. Below are some pictures I took:

Event Decor Inspiration: Paper Lanterns

I’ve been watching so much of the Style Channel, and especially their show “Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?” I love what the event planners do with the decor! Several of the ideas they have on the show can inspire planning for other types of special events.

For an event in the future, I would love to have Chinese lanterns. I love them because they give such an enchanted feeling. I found the pretty picture below on OurWeddingPlus.com

And Martha Stewarts’ website had this pretty picture of lanterns covered with paper butterflies for a Spring Party Idea slideshow.

School Dazed Art

I found these pictures from my high school days when our art club had a chalk drawing contest. Above is my group’s Renaissance-inspired drawing dedicated to the Vitruvian Man. Don’t worry he’s holding a bowl of fruit in front of him. Can you tell who added the moon, stars, and bird soaring? Yeah that was me and my obsession with my dream theme.

Below is another groups’ rendition of ‘Ms. Jackson’, after her “wardrobe malfunction”, but as a mermaid on a seashell! I think they won the contest and I see why, so talented:

Here’s one of our school mascot, the Bull:

It’s nice to remember my high school days at Miami Northwestern (where I went for my last two years of high school). They had great art and medical programs, and a great athletics program to boot (they won the national football championship last year here in Dallas. Go Bulls!)
