Love Sets You Free to Play and Dream – Dare Dreamer Be Free

We began our journey on this Earth with the freedom to discover, to explore with wide-eyed wonder, we dreamed, we played naturally – until we lost our trust and fear drew us away from our real life reverie and the freedom that is ours…

What would happened if we embraced the childlike freedom to dream and play again?

I was inspired to do research for my education doctorate program on the power of play in learning and creativity for kids and “grown up” kids, and how play is beneficial to our productivity, creativity, and health. Recently at my research presentation I brought blowpops, bubbles, balls and other toys for the educational professionals to play with – and they did! It was a sight to see (and giggle at! Can you imagine your school’s teachers and principals blowing bubbles?;). I loved seeing them ignite their inner-child!

I encourage you to do the same! The first journey of the Dare Dreamer Movement is reconnecting with the child in you and the boundless creativity that has been stifled by your life experiences. Let’s regain the freedom we had to dream and live with wonder and whimsy – the Love that created us gives us permission to be free from the darkness and trials of this world and live in light and possibility.

What can you do today to add an element of play to your life?

For me it has been adding more time to do art, dance and write songs without caring what others would think. I’d love you to share how you would play with me!

Diary of a Shy Teen: My Teaser of a Short Film About Reclaiming Your Voice and Identity (for Youth Speaker University) & Inspiration from Emeli Sande’s Read All About It

I’ve always wanted to inspire youth as an actress🎭 but was always to shy and paralyzed by anxiety to try – not anymore! Here’s my debut starring role playing a teen girl in a *homemade* short film (made for a scholarship entry), based on a true story (my diaries and embarrassing stories as a teen, find out never -shared before 🔐 secrets like who I was crushing on at age 15;).

The Tyler Perry-inspired “Diary of a Sad Shy Teen” (“unfortunately” Madea couldn’t be in this one, halleluyer;) is playing in schools across the country in kids who don’t have a voice. My dream is to reach teens like me and creatively give them a light of hope.

After over 20 years of severe social anxiety and stage fright I’m finally living out my dream of shining inspiration by merging my passion for acting and singing in imaginative presentations.

Here’s a flashback into my tumultuous teenhood, inspired by Josh Shipp’s Youth Speaker University – an awesome opportunity for those with a passion for empowering young people and giving them a voice.

Emeli Sande’s song Read All About It is exactly the message that I’d like to share with the younger me and other people like me who feel like they don’t have a voice:

Emeli Sande’s song Read All About It Lyrics

You’ve got the words to change a nation
But you’re biting your tongue
You’ve spent a life time stuck in silence
afraid you’ll say something wrong
If no one ever hears it how we gonna learn your song?
So come on, come on
Come on, come on

You’ve got a heart as loud as lions
So why let your voice be tamed?
Baby we’re a little different
there’s no need to be ashamed
You’ve got the light to fight the shadows
so stop hiding it away
Come on, Come on

I wanna sing, I wanna shout
I wanna scream till the words dry out
so put it in all of the papers,
I’m not afraid
they can read all about it
read all about it oh
oh-oh-oh

At night we’re waking up the neighbors
while we sing away the blues
making sure that we remember yeah
cause we all matter too
if the truth has been forbidden
then we’re breaking all the rules
so come on, come on
come on, come on

lets get the TV and the radio
to play our tune again
its ’bout time we got some airplay of our version of events
there’s no need to be afraid
i will sing with you my friend
Come on, come on

I wanna sing, I wanna shout
I wanna scream till the words dry out
so put it in all of the papers,
I’m not afraid
they can read all about it
read all about it oh
oh-oh-oh

Yeah we’re all wonderful, wonderful people
so when did we all get so fearful?
Now we’re finally finding our voices
so take a chance, come help me sing this
Yeah we’re all wonderful, wonderful people
so when did we all get so fearful?
and now we’re finally finding our voices
so take a chance, come help me sing this

I wanna sing, I wanna shout
I wanna scream till the words dry out
so put it in all of the papers,
I’m not afraid
they can read all about it
read all about it oh
oh-oh-oh

I wanna sing, I wanna shout
I wanna scream till the words dry out
so put it in all of the papers,
I’m not afraid
they can read all about it
read all about it oh

What Are You Afraid Of? Be Bold When Pursuing Your Purpose and Dreams

What are you afraid of that’s keeping you from living your purpose and dreams?

Just a few years ago if you put me (more like dragged me) onto a stage and ask me to speak I’d be shaking in my boots – literally!

I hated the spotlight. The thought of talking to people, even in one-on-one conversation, petrified me. Years of being chained by anxiety since childhood imprisoned me.

It was taking small brave steps that challenged me – and also realizing that the people I’m meant to impact are more important than my fears – that encouraged me to be bold.

That teen girl who was considering suicide is more important than the fear that I will say the wrong thing. Those women who are afraid of following their dreams matter more than me being cozy in my comfort zone.

Your voice matters and your purpose is vital to others who are waiting to experience what you are gifted to bring. Every person has purpose no matter what they do but everyday people leave this earth with their vision still inside, and we all miss out on the unique beauty beating in their hearts.

What you fear often is an indicator to what you should do, so instead of avoiding it, look closely at where you are being called to.

After years of being paralyzed by fear I now find myself feeling at home on all kinds of stages speaking to hundreds of people and doing creative presentations that I never thought possible!

Fear is too small a thing to keep you from who you are meant to be, where you are led to impact with your light, who you are called to free. So DARE Dreamer and live boldly because you were made for this! #AriseandShine #LiveonPurpose – Julene

A Dreamer’s Diary: Choose Joy, Always! Sharing My Story of Overcoming Depression

One of the greatest obstacles to following my dreams has been overcoming depression and the feeling of inadequacy. Over the years and through many struggles I’ve learned that joy is a choice and it is strength in the darkest of times…

I shared a glimpse of my story a few weeks back on Facebook and was surprised by the outpouring of support, people who said they were encouraged and even someone who messaged me to tell me that they were going through a down time in their life and I was able to give them an uplifting word.

Often our past can feel like something to be ashamed of but in reality your story and whatever you have overcome is vital to share to help other people get through – dare to be vulnerable, you have the hope someone else needs. This is my story…
