Made with Love – Latest Design Project & Review of EasyCanvasPrints

Above: A special wedding print I created for my friend Evelina, printed with EasyCanvasPrints.

Evelina is the type of person who brightens a room with her contagious laugh and personality. I met her when I was a college student and she was one of my advisors and co-workers. Who could imagine that we’d become friends and that years later I’d be designing her wedding invitations.

Evelina inspires me to keep pursuing my purpose despite what obstacles may arise. Recently I interviewed her on my site Dream in Soul (click here for that interview) about how she overcame a life-threatening illness and is now living life fully and boldly. Her love story is unique and special (she and her husband Ivan met on Facebook through mutual friends) and inspires me that God has creative ways of weaving together the details in our lives.

For her December wedding Evelina wanted a fun invitation with a Christmasy-feel and a movie poster theme, so I created the design to the right with the engagement photographs by Adrian Gutierriz. The “movie title” was “From My Heart to Yours” which is actually the motto of Evelina’s inspirational company Sol2Soul. After the wedding I modified the invitations and used some of the photos from the ceremony to create a special Wedding Memory Collage print for Evelina.

Around that time I was contacted by Megan from EasyCanvasPrints to review their service, so I decided to send in Evelina’s design. Soon afterwards I got a package in the mail and was excited to see the print come alive on a 16×20 canvas.

The print from EasyCanvasPrints is vibrant, very close in color to the original graphic I sent, and the texture gives the design a character and dynamic. The print is slightly glossy in the darker areas, and I like how the colors are bright and pop. The canvas is pretty thick and is mounted on a wooden frame with a metal attachment on the back for hanging (you can also order wall mounts from the site). I love how the print details wrap around the canvas (which is one of three options you can choose.) I think EasyCanvasPrints is a great choice for anyone who wants to display family photograph or a work of art.

Special event designs are some of my favorites to do, feel free to contact me if you’d like me to create a design for your special occasion or a personalized gift made with love for someone special.

Note: I received a free print from EasyCanvasPrints in exchange for a review on my site. My review was based on the product I received and my opinion of it.

Paper Art Inspiration from Yulia Brodskaya

I’ve been wanting to try some paper art myself recently, since its one of my favorite mediums. Over the years one of my favorite paper artists has been Yulia Brodskaya, you can see some of my favorite works from Yulia above. I love the intricate and brightly colored scenes she illustrates and projects she’s done for companies like Google and O Magazine. Visit her site at www.artyulia.com.

About Yulia – From her site:
Yulia Brodskaya was born in Russia (Moscow); prior to moving to the UK in 2004 she was interested in diverse creative practices ranging from Textile Painting, Origami and Collage to more traditional Fine Art practices. Following an MA in Graphic Communication (2006, University of Hertfordshire) she continued to experiment and explore ways of bringing together all the things she likes most: typography, paper, and highly detailed hand-made craft objects. She has swiftly earned an international reputation for her innovative paper illustrations and continues to create beautifully detailed paper designs for clients all around the world.

Julia on why she loves using paper
“I believe that one of the main reasons I enjoy the paper craft, is due to my love of the material: paper. Although I’ve always had a special fascination for paper, it has taken me a while to find my own way of working with it; and then it took a little longer to find out that the technique I have been using so intensively is called quilling – it involves the use of strips of paper that can be rolled, shaped, and glued to the background.” Read More

Life is full of little moments of joy but sometimes we miss them in a rush or in pursuit of the “bigger and better.” Take time to appreciate and savor the little moments with your family and in the seemingly insignificant moments of life – when you relax and take the time to enjoy them you’ll be surprised at just how much more beautiful and sweeter those moments will be. – Julene Dreamfleur

Sweet Eggs and Ham: Creative Dr. Seuss Inspired Cakes

I’m in love with the Food Network, especially their cake-making competitions. The cakes their bakers/artists make are so whimsical and detailed. Here’s a video I found of a Dr. Seuss Cake Challenge. I love watching them work, and wonder how all that can be edible?

And because I love Dr. Seuss so much here are some inspiring quotes from him:
  • “You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”
  • “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
  • “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”
  • “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.
  • “Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the things you can think up if only you try!”

Crafty Creative Costume: “If the Shoe Fits, Wear It”

I came across this cute costume created by Zavi and was blown away by her creativity. She made this giant Nike Dunk costume, designed a huge replica of a Nike Shoe box, and finished off the look with “Barbie sneaker earrings, shoe strings braided into [her] hair with pink Barbie sneakers at the end, and a pink swoosh on [her] face.” The finished look is really cool and creative.
